Frequently Asked Questions

  1. What is the training cost?
The training cost is negotiable with your preferred training provider and is dependent on the training requirements.

  2. What does 60%* of the training cost mean?
E.g. if the training for each student cost $120 for a 2D1N camp, the YLDG can fund up to 60%* of $120, which is $72 per student. (* Subject to conditions and approval)

  3. Is there a cap to the YLDG?
Each student/youth can receive grant amount of up to $300 per year.

  4. Can the school/organisation engage other training providers other than those on the NYC recommended list?
Yes, you may choose to engage other training providers not included in NYC’s recommended list, pending NYC’s review and assessment of the capability and reliability of the trainer as well as the eligibility of the training content. The training provider will need to be assessed and approved BEFORE you can engage the trainers and apply for YLDG.

  5. What is the average number of students/youths allowed in group project after the training programme?
Each project group should be kept to about 12 students/youths so that every student/ youth can be actively involved in the project. E.g. if there are 20 students trained, there can be 2 groups of 10 students/youths working implementing service to the community.

  6. Can the school/organisation decide the post-training activities for the students/youths?
Ideally the students/youths can have the opportunity to propose post-training activities of their choice. The schools/organisations may however provide some guidelines on the overall theme/type of activities.

  7. What are the types of post-training activities if the students/youths do not want to carry out a community project?
Depending on the topic of the training programme, the students/youths may plan and carry out activities other than community projects. E.g. students/youths may choose to participate in committees or workgroups in their community or take on the role of mentoring others.

  8. Can the students/youths implement an overseas community project?
The students/youths can plan for an overseas project but there must be a local community project component implemented PRIOR TO OR AFTER the overseas project.

  9. When must the post-training activities be implemented?
It is preferred that the students/youths embark on their post-training activities within 3 months after the training, so that they are better able to apply what they have learnt during the training in hands-on service to their community. However, depending on the nature of the post-training activities, the timeline for completion of the activities may vary.

    YLDG EVALUATION/SURVEYS
To evaluate and understand if YLDG and the training programmes have been effective in helping students/youths develop their leadership capabilities and carry out their projects, a Post-Training Survey and a Post-Project Survey will be given to the students.

  10. When should the YLDG surveys be administered?
The Post-Training Survey should be administered right after the training programme ends.
The Post-Project Survey should be administered 3 weeks after the students/youths complete their projects.
We will forward the soft copy of both forms to the staff in-charge.
