What is CYDP?

The CYDP is an initiative launched by the Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment (MSE), the National Climate Change Secretariat (NCCS), and the National Youth Council (NYC) to strengthen the Government’s partnership with youth in advancing climate action and sustainable development.

The annual programme brings together 30 to 40 youth who are passionate about environmental sustainability and climate change issues and want to create a positive impact within their communities. They will embark on a journey that begins with a multi-day induction period, followed by ongoing activities and engagements in the weeks that follow.

Through the CYDP, youth will have the opportunity to:

1. Be equipped with knowledge and/or soft skills that enable them to contribute more constructively to the environmental sustainability and climate change space.

2. Gain access to signature events and dialogues with stakeholders on environmental sustainability and climate change issues offered by the Government and its partners.

3. Collaborate with like-minded peers to drive ground-up action and raise awareness of environmental sustainability and climate change issues among the general population.

COP29 Youth Delegation Report

As part of the Climate Youth Development Programme (CYDP) 2024, 20 youths were selected to represent Singapore at COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan. At Baku, they attended select negotiations to learn more about Singapore’s position and constraints, and organised programmes at the Singapore Pavilion to share the role of youths in the climate change and environmental sustainability space in Singapore.

The youth delegation put together their learnings and ideas into a Youth Delegation Report, which covers 6 topics: sustainable finance, carbon markets & maritime, energy & decarbonisation, youth empowerment, waste, and food resilience & security.

Details of CYDP

Participants will begin their CYDP journey with a multi-day Induction Week, where they will take part in learning journeys and dialogues with policymakers and industry experts to enhance their knowledge and soft skills for driving ground-up climate action. They will also get to network with like-minded peers from diverse backgrounds and explore potential collaborations.

After the Induction Week, participants will be provided with opportunities to continue growing their knowledge of climate and environment issues, and network with local and international players in this space. They will be involved in sessions specially curated by MSE, NCCS and NYC, and be offered access to signature events and platforms.

Upon completion of the programme, participants will be part of the Climate Youth Community (CYC) and be offered opportunities in various leadership development and climate-related platforms. They will also be provided with the resources to collaborate and lead community projects involving the broader youth population to address environmental sustainability and climate issues.
